Finding this doll in the street among a heap of forgotten children's toys, I decided to incorporate it into my current body of work. Inspired by recent sketches I had made, I wanted to try and translate the fluid, often random, marks I had made on paper into sculpture. The doll originally had pen marks on it when I had found it so that heavily influenced my decision to use pen. I found the eyes incredibly interesting, almost haunting, especially when contrasted with the dark pen marks. I think that the fact the doll was found abandoned on the street with evidence a child had once played with, and even mistreated, it makes the piece very unnerving. I found the process of drawing on the doll very strange, drawing on dolls is almost a childhood taboo, however it was interesting to turn this forgotten toy into a sculpture.
