For this crit two bodies of work were shown, an animation of a boxer and stills from it were shown by Sophie Hawkins, and several paintings depicting animals with human heads and a print were shown by Eleanor Murley. The first body of work, the animation, was very atmospheric. The still images displayed had been worked into with white chalk which gave them a sense of movement and freedom. The second body of work, the anthropomorphic heads, were made using limited materials and often only two of three colours. I feel that this had made the pieces very abstract and worked well given the strange subject matter. The print was made using a large wooden block carving and printed using a steam roller onto material. I think the fluid marks of the image work well as a print, it is almost dream like.
